When Grief Teaches Us to Live Without Regret: Lessons of loss, faith, and the gift of cherishing those we love while we still can
Grief reshapes us. It reminds us that life is fragile and that tomorrow is never promised. As I’ve walked through heartbreaking losses in recent years, I’ve learned that faith does not erase sorrow—it steadies us within it.
Each empty chair, each silenced voice, reminds us of what truly matters: cherishing the ones we love while we still can. And when laughter returns after seasons of mourning, it is sweeter because we know how costly it is.

The Armor We Need for Life’s Battles: Preparing our hearts and minds to withstand hardship and stand strong
Hope can feel fragile when illness, disasters, or tragedies strike. In those moments, it’s easy to forget that life’s hardest battles are not only physical or emotional—they are also spiritual.
The apostle Paul reminded us in Ephesians 6 that we must “put on the full armor of God” to withstand the enemy’s attacks and stand firm in faith. Over the years, this truth has carried me through cancer, financial struggles, and seasons of deep uncertainty.
Victory, I’ve learned, doesn’t depend on whether circumstances change. It comes from knowing that God is on our side—and standing firm in His promises.

When Darkness Speaks, God Still Whispers: Discovering His presence through grief and loss
Grief and loss often paint our days in shades of darkness. Like Van Gogh’s At Eternity Gate or Munch’s The Scream, our sorrow can feel overwhelming, even paralyzing. Yet, in the midst of anguish, the Bible reminds us that God whispers hope—if only we open our eyes to see Him at work.
This past year, my family and I have walked through painful losses—including the sudden passing of my father. And yet, even in the midst of heartbreak, I’ve witnessed undeniable glimpses of God’s goodness: from miraculous provisions to the precious gift of being at my dad’s bedside in his final hours.
Friend, I don’t deny the pain—but I can testify that God is present, even in the darkest valleys. If you are grieving today, lift your eyes. He is near, and His whisper of hope is for you too.

Empowered to Love—and Whole Enough to Give It
“I Am Third.”
The phrase, popularized by NFL legend Gale Sayers, may sound noble—putting God first, others second, and ourselves last. But as I reflected on Jesus’ words in Matthew 22, I began to wrestle with a vital question:
Can we truly love others well… if we constantly neglect ourselves?
In this week’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution column, I share how reading Empowered to Love—a powerful new book by Dr. Bob Paul and Dr. Tara LaLonde—challenged my view on self-care in a biblical context. Drawing from Scripture and my own journey as a young mother, I explore why Jesus included “as yourself” in His command to love—and why learning to care for our own emotional and spiritual health is not selfish, but essential.
If you’ve ever felt depleted, overwhelmed, or unsure how to love from a place of strength, this message is for you.
