A Podcast episode with Christie Thomas

Hi friends!

I am beyond thrilled to share with you an enlightening episode of “God-sized Stories.” This week, we have the privilege of welcoming Christie Thomas, a dedicated children’s ministry leader, homeschooling mother, and author of several impactful books including “Little Habits Big Faith.”

In our conversation, Christie introduces us to her unique concept of the “faith growth cycle.” She walks us through the three core stages: seed, sprout, and root. These stages represent a profound yet practical process to gradually incorporate faith-based habits into our lives and our children’s lives. Christy’s insights remind us that deepening our faith isn’t about making dramatic changes overnight, but rather about nurturing it step by step with small, consistent actions.

Faith Growth Cycle

We start with the Seed Stage, where prayer plays a pivotal role. Christie emphasizes the importance of praying for clarity on what changes God wants to see in our lives. This may be something as simple as integrating more bible memory with your children or dedicating specific times for prayer.

Next is the Sprout Stage, where we begin to implement these changes in small, manageable ways. Christie gives us actionable examples, such as setting aside a few minutes each day to memorize scripture with our kids or incorporating blessings into daily routines. These minor adjustments are the sprouts that will eventually grow into deeper habits.

Finally, we discuss the Root Stage. In this stage, the newly formed habits take deeper root and start to flourish. Over time, these practices grow and expand, naturally leading to an enriched faith life for both parents and their children.

Christie also shares invaluable advice for parents of teenagers and even grandparents. She reassures us that it’s never too late to instill faith habits in our families, no matter what age our children may be. Open communication, starting small, and taking a non-intrusive approach are key takeaways from her insights.

One of the most touching parts of our conversation is when Christie recounts a personal story about a nightly blessing routine she developed with her child. This simple practice brought immense peace and became a cherished part of their daily life. It’s these heartfelt stories that make her guidance so relatable and practical.

We also touch on Christie’s journey from pursuing a career in medicine to dedicating her life to children’s ministry and now, authoring resources that help families grow in faith. Her dedication to family discipleship is inspiring, reminding us that parents play a crucial role in influencing their children’s spiritual journeys.
