A Podcast episode with Stacey Womack
As the host of “God-sized Stories,” I am always profoundly moved by the powerful testimonies and resources our guests share. In our latest episode, I had the tremendous honor of welcoming Stacey Womack, an extraordinary advocate and founder of ARMS (Abuse Recovery Ministry Services). Stacy’s work and her newly released book, “On the Front Lines of Abuse,” shine a much-needed light on the often overlooked and misunderstood realm of domestic abuse within the faith community.
Stacey’s ministry, featured on abuserecovery.org, offers an array of invaluable resources. From training videos and blogs to a comprehensive pastor’s packet, these tools are designed to empower individuals experiencing or perpetrating abuse and provide guidance for pastors and church leaders. One of the standout programs, “Her Journey,” is a 15-week, trauma-informed support program for women. This free resource is available in multiple languages and locations, including internationally, and offers a lifeline to those in need.
During our conversation, Stacey shared her deeply personal experiences, including the challenges faced by her daughters in abusive relationships. Her honesty and courage in addressing the difficulties of recognizing abuse and navigating the judicial system were incredibly eye-opening. We delved into the critical issue of custody battles in abusive contexts, highlighting the systemic changes needed to offer better protection and support for victims.
Abuse Survivors
Stacy’s heartfelt stories underscored the importance of creating safety for those in abusive relationships. She provided insightful advice for pastors, emphasizing the need for emotional support rather than judgement or gathering excessive information. Her compassionate approach to aiding individuals through crucial steps, such as making phone calls to seek help, resonated deeply with me.
We also touched on the significant cultural connections we share through our Latin American roots, momentarily connecting over soccer and our shared heritage. Beyond these personal touches, the focus remained steadfast on the essential work Stacy champions.
One of the most compelling aspects of our discussion was Stacey’s explanation of psychological abuse. This form of abuse, often misunderstood and dismissed as normal relationship conflict, is deeply damaging and controlling. Stacy’s insights into the public image management by abusers and the importance of broadening societal understanding of abuse were both sobering and enlightening.
As someone who is also passionate about supporting women through my ministry, Soaring With Him, this conversation was a poignant reminder of the vital role we play in addressing abuse within our communities. Stacy and I also explored the idea of future collaborations, recognizing the power of united efforts in making a difference.
To further extend the impact of this crucial dialogue, we are hosting a book giveaway of Stacey’s new release. I encourage every listener to enter for a chance to win this transformative resource.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Stacey Womack for joining us and sharing her invaluable expertise and experiences. Her dedication to helping victims of abuse is nothing short of inspiring, and I hope our conversation will inspire many to seek help, offer support, and foster environments of compassion and safety.
