A Podcast episode with Brant Hansen

In this latest episode of “God-sized Stories,” I had the pleasure of engaging in an enlightening conversation with Brant Hansen, an award-winning radio show host, podcaster, and author. Brant’s perspectives on faith, peace, and authenticity shine through his work and resonate deeply in today’s fast-paced, often chaotic world.

One of the key themes Brant and I delved into was the subtle but pervasive idolatry in modern faith. Many people, even within the church, often find themselves inadvertently worshipping personal ideals or lifestyles, mistaking these for their Christian faith. This misdirection can lead to a superficial spirituality that overlooks the foundational tenets of Christianity.

Brant asked a thought-provoking question, pressing listeners to consider what aspects of Jesus in the Bible people might find unlikable. This prompted a deeper reflection on human imperfection and the necessity of Jesus in our lives. No one is driven away from faith by hypocrites; rather, it’s a profound realization of our collective need for Jesus that should guide us.

We also celebrated the release of Brant’s new book, “Life is Hard. God is Good. Let’s Dance.” This book encapsulates a message of enduring faith and joy, even amidst life’s inevitable hardships. Brant shared stories from a CURE hospital in Niger, where the joy found in healing is often symbolized by dance, reflecting the profound impact of faith and medical care working together.

Christian Authenticity

As we discussed the importance of deliberately focusing on God’s truths, I shared one of my own spiritual practices—using 3 by 5 cards with scriptures placed around my home. This, along with starting my devotion time with worship music, has enriched my prayer experience and brought me closer to God’s presence. Brant agreed, emphasizing the importance of actively focusing on positive and truthful thoughts, a concept rooted in Philippians 4:8.

A poignant part of our conversation touched on Brant’s childhood experiences. Despite his father’s public image as a great man of God, Brant disclosed the fear and trauma that pervaded their home life. This juxtaposition underscored the critical need for genuine acts of Christian faith, steering clear of seeking fame or recognition, and focusing instead on serving others selflessly.

Brant’s advocacy with CURE International Children’s Hospitals highlights the transformative impacts of modern miracles. The story of a girl in Zambia, who underwent life-changing surgery for her cleft palate, illustrated how generosity and modern medical interventions serve as divine blessings in our time.

Moreover, we discussed how technology and advancements in medicine align with Jesus’ prophecy about doing greater works. These modern miracles, facilitated by the Holy Spirit’s guidance, extend the healing and transformative power of faith far beyond ancient times.

It was clear throughout our conversation that Brant’s approach to life—rooted in daily reliance on God, humility, and service—brings him profound joy, peace, and laughter. His emphasis on genuine faith and the practical application of Jesus’ teachings about peace offers a roadmap for others struggling with anxiety and fear in today’s world.
